The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has appointed the inter-ministerial working group for Better Regulation whose main objective is to introduce to public administration better regulation concepts such as consultation, impact assessment, simplification, accessibility of legislation and reduction of administrative burdens.

The inter-ministerial working group for Better Regulation has carried out some important projects:

• organization and implementation of the Directors and Experts of Better regulation Conference on 25-26 October 2007,
• adoption of the Programme for reduction of administrative burdens for the period 2008-2009 (in November 2007) and setting up national target for reduction of administrative burdens in some priority fields,
• adoption of Guidelines for Measuring Administrative Costs and concrete measurement of administrative costs,
• cooperation concerning development of new guidelines for better regulation with minimal recommendations for impact assessment and consultation with interested public;
• organization of conference Reduction of administrative burdens on SMEs on 17 April 2008 together with the European Commission, European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia; the main goals, which were successfully achieved, were to present the administrative burden reduction programme to the enterprises and to adopt proposals for the legislative simplification on the EU level;
• prepared Manual for planning, managing and evaluating of public participation processes;
• co-organization of international OECD conference Building citizens centred policies and services.
